The SOLR ENERGY team was selected to design, engineer and QC an 80KW Solar PV system for the United States Naval Academy Health Clinic in Annapolis, MD.  The system was engineered to be the first Navy system in the country with a (RS) rapid shut down system and an (AFDI) Arc Fault Detection and Interruption system. This system was the first Solar PV system owned by Navy that meets the new requirements for the Rapid Shut down provisions of the 2014 Nation Electrical Code.  SOLR ENERGY designed and implemented a DC Rapid shutdown with an integrated AFDI combiner.

SOLR ENERGY also provided quality control services and operations training classes for the NAVY and for Turner Industries.

This system utilizes qty (216) LG 280 watt (60) cell solar modules, with an 80 KW Solectria central inverter, and an S5! Clamp racking system installed on standing seam metal roofing.  The system was engineered to reduce the utility cost for the USMC for this location by approximately $14,000 per year.

USNA’s Health Clinic was the first fully 2014 NEC code compliant PV system in the country and it was installed on a Navy Base.  This system can be safely disabled with the push of a button for regular maintenance.  If the building experiences a utility outage the DC conductors from the DC combiner box to the inverter also turns off as required by code until the utility power is restored and the alarm is cleared. Safety first!
